Biografie
Jonny & the Jazzuits, opgericht in 2011, hebben al de harten van velen in heel Nederland aangemoedigd door op te treden op jazzfestivals, bars, kerken en bruiloftsrecepties. Ze hebben ook opgetreden in België en Zwitserland.
saxofonist, klarinettist en zanger Jonny Boston heeft veel gereisd in zijn leven. Hij woont momenteel in Hoofddorp, Nederland.
Jonny blonk uit in muziek school waar
Jonny blonk uit in muziek in Christ’s Hospital, een school waar hij werd gekoesterd en aangemoedigd. Hij debuteerde op 15-jarige leeftijd met Bahrain Jazz Quartet in het Midden-Oosten. De legendarische cornetist Phil Mason hoorde hem voor het eerst busking in de Londense metro, wat leidde tot tournees door heel Europa met Max Collie Rhythm Aces op 18-jarige leeftijd. Jonny verliet Max’s band om te studeren aan Leeds College of Music, waar hij cum laude zijn Graduate Diploma in Jazz & Contemporary Music behaalde!
n 2008 verhuisde hij naar Nederland en hier wijdde hij zijn leven opnieuw aan Jezus Christus. Tussen 2010 – 2021 was hij actief bij Crossroads International Church in Amsterdam waar hij regelmatig de eredienst leidde. Hij was ook vaak betrokken bij de muziekbediening in The Tabernacle – een klein gebedshuis in de rosse buurt. Hij maakt momenteel deel uit van een kleine gemeenschap ter plaatse die op Sjabbat bijeenkomt.
In 2011 richtte hij de jazz gospelgroep Jonny & the Jazzuits op. Hun 1e album Psalms, Hymns &; Spiritual Songs (2015) werd genomineerd voor een Zilveren Duif Award. Hun 2e album Temporary Accommodation (2017) heeft veel bijval gekregen, waaronder CD Of The Week bij Groot Nieuws Radio. Een 3e release, de EP ‘Good Medicine’ werd met succes gefinancierd en uitgebracht in 2021.
Biography
Inaugurated in 2011, Jonny & the Jazzsuits have already encouraged many hearts in the entire Netherlands through performing at jazz festivals, bars, churches and wedding receptions. They have also performed in Belgium and Switzerland.
Although saxophonist, clarinettist and singer Jonny Boston has travelled a lot in his life, he lives currently in Hoofddorp, the Netherlands.
Jonny excelled in music at Christ’s Hospital, a school where he was cherished and encouraged. At the age of 15, he debuted with the Bahrain Jazz Quartet in the Middle East.
The legendary cornetist, Phil Mason, first heard him busking in the London Underground, which, at the age of 18, led to tours throughout Europe with Max Collie’s Rhythm Aces, whose band he then left to study at the Leeds College of Music, where he obtained his Graduate Diploma in Jazz and Contemporary Music with distinction.
In 2008 he moved to Holland and devoted his life anew to Jesus Christ. Between 2010 and 2021, he was active in the Crossroads International Church in Amsterdam where he regularly led the service. He was also often connected to the music service in the Tabernacle, a small prayer house in the red-light district. At the moment, he is part of a small community who meet on the Shabbat.
In 2011 he started the jazz gospel group, Jonny & the Jazzsuits. Their debut album Psalms, Hymns & Spiritual Songs released in March 2015, was nominated for a “Zilveren Duif Award” (Silver Dove award), a Dutch award for Gospel Music Artists. Their 2nd album entitled
Temporary Accommodation released in October 2017 has already received much acclaim including CD of The Week on Groot Nieuws Radio, the national Christian radio station in Holland. A third release, the EP ‘Good Medicine’ was successfully financed and released in 2021.
