Iris is met haar warme stem al jaren een graag geziene en gehoorde gast in jazzclubs, op festivals, concerten en (bedrijfs)feesten. Ze heeft een uitgebreid repertoire opgebouwd dat reikt van traditionele jazz, en blues tot de mooiste standards uit het American Songbook.
Het repertoire van Iris & Friends staat borg voor een gedegen eigentijdse benadering van het mainstream idioom. De vrienden van Iris vinden het een uitdaging om haar op een dynamische manier te begeleiden. Maar ook komt ieder bandlid solistisch aan zijn trekken. Tijdens de concerten wordt een zeer afwisselend programma geboden waarbij het show element zeker niet wordt vergeten.
Iris & Friends spelen regelmatig met zeer bekende musici. Al viermaal hebben zij een concert gegeven met de wereldberoemde saxofonist Scott Hamilton (de laatste keer september 2021). Niet alleen Iris maar ook de Friends hebben stuk voor stuk hun sporen in de jazz verdiend en spelen daarbij al langere tijd met elkaar samen.
Cornettist Bas Toscani loopt al een flinke tijd mee in het vaderlandse en internationale jazzcircuit. Zijn militaire diensttijd vervulde hij als eerste trompettist in de Koninklijke Militaire Kapel. Hij beheerst veel verschillende stijlen. Zo is hij vaak op pad met zijn mobiele Dixieland formatie The Thundering Dixie Hearts maar hij speelt ook be-bop in o.a. het Alexander Beets/Bas Toscani Quintet. Hij heeft met zijn broer Pim de formatie The Swinging Brothers opgericht en is tevens verbonden aan de inmiddels internationaal bekende Pim Toscani’s Dixieland all Stars.
Pianist Nick van den Bos begon zijn muzikale loopbaan als trompettist. Na les te hebben gekregen van zijn vader op piano, nam hij op dertienjarige leeftijd de trompet ter hand en leerde zichzelf het instrument te bespelen. Op zeventienjarige leeftijd behaalde hij met zijn toenmalige band “SCARAB” op het Loosdrechtse jazzfestival een derde plaats en wist hij ook nog de solistenprijs in de wacht te slepen. Dit alles had tot gevolg dat hij al jong bij de band van Boy Edgar kwam en vooral ‘s avonds veel speelde met jazzgrootheden als Toon van Vliet, Hans Dulfer, Gerrie van der Klei. Op zijn 23e ging hij piano studeren aan het conservatorium in Amsterdam. Hij begeleidde in de loop der jaren o.a. Scott Hamilton, Ge Titulaer, Rita Reys, en speelde o.a. bij het Metropole orkest o.l.v. Jerry van Rooyen.
Bassist Rob Veenhuizen kan bogen op een jarenlange nationale en internationale ervaring. Hij heeft o.a. 4 jaar gespeeld bij de Henk Meutgeert Bigband, met o.a. Rudi Brink, Slide Hampton en Toots Thielemans. Rob heeft vele malen opgetreden met Ray Kaart, Frits Katee, Jan Verwey, Sytze van Duin, Bert Boeren (vroeger in Dutch Swing College Band). Hij staat bekend om zijn geweldige drive en mooie solo’s
Pim Toscani begon zijn carrière bij verschillende dixieland orkesten. Freelance maakte hij deel uit van vele gelegenheidsformaties o.a. met Ray Kaart en Ruud Brink. Hij was invaller bij onder meer de Dutch Swing College Band (voor Huub Janssen), de New Orleans Syncopators en de befaamde Duitse Allotria Jazz band. Hij is leider van het internationaal bekende Swing Fire Quartet en Pim Toscani’s Jazz All Stars. Hij staat bekend om zijn dynamisme stuwende drumstijl en zijn spectaculaire solo’s.
Iris & Friends voelen zich zowel thuis op het concertpodium als op een party (tijdens bijvoorbeeld een receptie kan het geluid tot fluisterzacht worden aangepast). Ook kan naar gelang de locatie en gelegenheid in een kleinere of juist uitgebreide samenstelling gespeeld worden. Bovendien bieden ze u een goed verzorgde en enthousiaste presentatie.

With her warm voice, Iris has been seen and heard for years as a welcome guest in jazz clubs, at festivals, concerts and (company) parties. She has built up a wide repertoire that ranges from jazz and blues to the great standards taken from the American Songbook.
Iris and Friends’ repertoire, guarantees a thoroughly contemporary approach to the Mainstream idiom. The friends of Iris find it a challenge to lead her in a dynamic way. But every band member can solo to their liking. A concert offers a very varied program where the “show element” will surely be seen.
Iris & Friends play regularly with very famous musicians and have already given four concerts with world famous saxophonist Scott Hamilton. September 2021 was the last one of these. Not only Iris, but also the “Friends” have made their mark, one for one, in the jazz world and have already played a long time with one another.
Cornenttist Bas Toscani has been around the jazz circuit in his home country and abroad for a long time. He filled his time during National Service as first trumpetist in the Royal Military marching band but has full command over many different styles. As such, he is often on the road with his mobile Dixieland formation The Thundering Dixie Hearts, but also plays Be-Bop in the Alexander Beets/Bas Toscani Quintet. With his brother Pim, he started The Swinging Brothers and stays connected to the recently internationally famous Pim Toscani’s Dixieland All Stars.
Pianist Nick van der Bos began his musical career as a trumpetist. After piano lessons from his father, and at the age of thirteen, he taught himself to play the trumpet. At seventeen, his band “SCARAB” won third prize at the Loosdrechtse Jazz Festival and himself a prize as best soloist. All this resulted in him joining the Boy Edgar band and playing, mostly evenings, with jazz greats such as Toon van Vliet, Hans Dulfer and Gerry van der Klei. When he was 23, he studied piano at the Amsterdam school of music. Over the years he has accompanied Scott Hamilton, Ge Titulaer and Rita Reys, as well as playing with the Metropole Orchestra, led by Jerry van Rooyen.
Bassist Rob Veenhuizen leans on many years of national and international experience. For four years he has played with the Henk Meutgeert Big Band, Rudi Brink, Slide Hampton and Toots Thielemans. Rob has performed many times with Ray Kaart, Frits Katee, Jan Verway, Sytze van Duin and Bert Boeren (Dutch Swing College band). Rob is famous for his great solos and terrific drive.
Pim Toscani began his career playing with different Dixieland bands. Working as a freelance he had the opportunity to play with impromptu formations including Ray Kaart and Ruud Brink.
He has stood-in for (Huub Janssen) Dutch Swing College Band, New Orleans Syncopators and the famous German Allotria Jazz Band. He is leader of the internationally familiar Fire Quartet and Pim Toscani’s Jazz All Stars. Pim is being famous for his dynamic driving drum style and spectacular solos.
Iris & friends feel at home on a concert podium as well as at different kind of parties. For example, at a reception the sound can get turned down to its lowest level
A smaller or larger formation can be used depending on the location and the occasion, in any case, they offer you a well prepared and enthusiastic presentation.
