Bob Kaper Quartet
De legendarische klarinettist Bob Kaper heeft 50 jaar bij de beroemde Dutch Swing College Band gespeeld, waarvan de laatste 30 jaar als muzikaal leider. Hij heeft hiermee over de hele wereld zijn virtuoze spel laten horen.
Bobs muzikale carrière begon in 1955. Hij richtte The Beale Street Seven op, dirigeerde een militaire band en was showbusinessondernemer voordat hij in 1969 lid werd van de Dutch Swing College Band. Zijn bijnaam: De Nederlandse Benny Goodman als virtuoos klarinettist kreeg hij vanwege zijn succesvolle bijdrage aan het Flashback Quartet.
Na het plotselinge overlijden van Peter Schilperoort in 1990 werd Bob gevraagd om de muzikale leiding van de DSC Band over te nemen. Dat jaar ontving de band de Dutch Export Award en in 1994 de prestigieuze Bird Award van het North Sea Jazz Festival. In 1999 ontving Bob een ridderorde in de Orde van Oranje Nassau voor zijn belangrijke bijdrage aan de ontwikkeling van de jazzmuziek in Nederland.
For 50 years the legendary clarinettist Bob Kaper, has played with the famous Dutch Swing College Band and for the last 30 years as their musical leader. As such, he has let his virtuosity over the whole world be heard.
Bob’s musical career began in 1955. He started up the Beale Street Seven, conducted a military band and was a showbusiness entrepreneur before he joined The Dutch Swing College Band in 1969. As virtuoso clarinettist, he earned the nickname of “The Dutch Benny Goodman” by his successful contribution to the Flashback Quartet.
After the sudden death of Peter Schilperoort in 1990 Bob was asked to become the DSC Band musical leader. In that year, the band received the Dutch Export Award and in 1994, the prestigious North Sea Jazz Festival Bird Award. In 1999 Bob received the Orde van Oranje-Nassau for his important contribution to the development of jazz music in the Netherlands.
